Established in 1937, Ramnarain Ruia College is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. It has been awarded a 4-star rating by NAAC. Its exceptional performance in curricular and co-curricular activities has enhanced its prestige and brought it substantial financial assistance from the University Grants Commission, the C S I R and many other equally reputed bodies. It offers students good infrastructure facilities and a competent faculty. It has a library dedicated to the visually challenged. The History department provides consultancy services to the Mumbai Metropolitan region Heritage Conservation Society. Another old horse when it comes to city colleges. Ruia is the kind of place that ex-students get nostalgic about, as they discuss the good ol days lazing away on the famous Ruia Katta or feasting to their hearts content at the numerous fast food joints surrounding it. The extra-curricular scene not withstanding, Ruia has also had the distinction of constantly producing Board toppers. Ruia also boasts of an excellent sporting culture and has many students participating in a variety of events, showcasing a healthy encouragement for students excelling in any sport. The college building remains active much beyond lecture hours as a number of coaching sessions for indoor sports extends late into the evening.
