Mumbai: For the first time, the SNDT Women’s University has introduced a two-year Master of Visual Arts (MVA) course. The programme will start from July and the degree will be equivalent to a Master of Fine Art from other universities. The postgraduate course is being offered by the SNDT University’s department of drawing and painting. The course will offer three specialisations—creative painting, portraiture or mural. There are only five seats in each of the three subjects. Admissions will be based on scores obtained while pursuing the BFA (Bachelor of Fine Art) or BVA (Bachelor of Visual Art). A minimum of 55% obtained for an MA with drawing will also be accepted. The SNDT University began its four-year BVA course in 2004. The first batch has passed out this year. This course was introduced at the university’s Mumbai, Pune and Nashik campuses. There are a total of 25 seats at each of the centres. Candidates who have cleared Class XII in any discipline from any board can apply. There is a compulsory entrance test to the first year of the BVA course. The subjects for the entrance test are general knowledge, drawing, fesign and memory drawing.
